about

What an appropriate way to end the decade and begin a new one.

Cult Love Sound Tapes is proud to present our close friends in The Lukewarm's first and only LP, Cycles. Their final release.

Tulsa, OK's, The Lukewarm, were an alternative/indie rock band that was formed around 2011. They gained a pretty notable following over the years from playing local shows, as well as, the release of their 2014 debut self-titled EP, which became quite popular locally and even beyond. They went on to release two singles in 2015, then went on hiatus later that year. In the summer of 2018 they reformed, adding George Christ to the band as their bassist. This time much more focused on a more developed alternative sound rather than their early days of indie rock. They played a handful of shows between 2018 and 2019, but primarily focused on writing and recording new material. They finished the album, but then broke up. And that leaves us at the present day (12/31/19) with the official release of the album they recorded over that spring and summer, Cycles.

Sonically, old fans of The Lukewarm will find this album to be quite a bit different than their 2015 singles or 2014 debut EP. This is definitely far more a step in the direction of mature alternative rock rather than the young, poppy indie rock sound that dominated their early musical landscape. With the addition of The Lukewarm's 5th member, George Christ, plus the passage of time and evolution of personal tastes, the album takes on a much darker tone and is a little less conventionally written than their early works; the band having taken new approaches at how they would handle their song writing/development process. However, old fans of The Lukewarm will find that the album still has some of that OG Lukewarm feel that made them so palatable in 2014/2015. The catchy writing, witty lyrics, and hyper listenability is all still there; we'd argue even some of that classic nostalgic aura of theirs still surrounds them, especially on certain tracks. The Lukewarm were still creating music that could appeal to a very wide demographic of audiences yet pushing their own musical boundaries. It's sad to see them go, but they left us with a wonderful parting album.

So we encourage you to dive in! This has been a long time coming, and we're all eternally grateful for your patience and continued support.

RIP The Lukewarm. A Tulsa staple.

Special thanks to Olivia for telling us to know our worth.
