_cavstic_ Lots and lots of fun. I really love the production, it's a bit fuzzy with the lofi warm but still bright. Definitely an enjoyable release, looking forward to hearing more from this talented band! Lovely EP all around, but it picks up and expands with Lillies. Bloom, the closer, is my favorite and has a dream poppy shoegaze vibe. Truly wonderful. Favorite track: Bloom.

about

One of Tulsa's most and up-and-coming bands right now !

Youthful, refreshing, witty, tasteful, there are a lot of words that could be used to describe the band Graveyard Party.

Comprised of four recent Tulsa area high school graduates with a variety of artistic interests and musical experience, Graveyard Party's sound can maybe be best described as an amalgamation of several ""garage-y"" and ""lofi"" related styles with a modern spin, perhaps being rooted in the influence of multiple different Tulsa musical communities that the members are involved in.

It could be easy to shove the band in to the ever-vague and broadly overarching genres of "garage rock" or "lofi" (whatever either of those even really mean in 2019), but we think that'd be doing the band a bit of a disservice and denying the prominence of their other stylistic influences. And frankly, every song on this album stands out sonically from the others and seem to each concentrate on a certain style of sound.

The song Rat Boiz (first of the album) definitely lies heavily within a "punk-y", "garage-y" spectrum, which could potentially influence the listener to dub Graveyard Party as a garage rock band. However, we find on the next track, Ant Bully, a departure from that sound in some rights and an influence of surfy, shimmery coastal rock definitely bleeds through. This is not the end of their sonic diversity and track variety, though. The following song, Lilies, delivers a prominent "lofi", "bedroom pop" sound. Pretty and melancholy. The fourth of the album, California Babe, returns to a "fuller" band sound and the influence of classic indie rock comes in to swing. Finally, Bloom, manages to collage all of these stylistic concentrations in to a single song, though leaning a little less heavily on the "garage" style.

Overall, listener, what you have before you is a very refreshing and tasteful collaging of several underground and DIY genres within one EP. Absolutely worth a listen, with potential appeal to a wide and diverse demographic of rock music fans. Something for everyone.
