about

Nearly 6 years after the release of their last album, Remembrance, Cult Love is thrilled to finally help bring you the return of Kansas City's black metal extraordinaries, Aprilmist.

Homesick is easily Aprilmist's best work to date. With the time between Homesick and Remembrance, you can really tell the band took the opportunity to sharply hone in their sound and write their best material to date; nothing at all about this album feels even remotely phoned in. All the intention is there and stands strong, distinguishable, and well executed; everything is in its rightful place. As their third album too, Homesick truly feels like the culmination of all their work up until now and is a beautiful spearhead in the evolution of the band since its inception.

For those not already familiar with Aprilmist, they fall somewhere in the realm of blackgaze and atmospheric black metal. An offshoot of the genres most heavily associated with higher end production of black metal as a whole. Walls of reverberated distortion, absolutely scathing vocals, and machine gun blasts permeate the entirety of the album, however beautiful, weeping clean guitar leads, gentle instrumentals, and even clean(???) backing vocals can be found on Homesick. The juxtaposition is absolutely lovely, and whereas some bands fail to execute these structures without sounding corny, Aprilmist absolutely succeeds in tastefully implementing these contrasts. Overall, underlying the entirety of Homesick is an undeniably gorgeous sense of melancholy. It is an incredibly beautiful, cathartic album and the perfect return for Aprilmist. Frankly, it's so emotive sounding that one could almost picture it being used in AMV's (100% high praise). Aprilmist have returned with their best work to date, any fans of metal or progressive music have to give this a listen.

Note: Album is not actually $1,000. Please purchase digital files directly from band.
